Today is the day I uninsure the truck. I am changing the oil, lubing up metal parts and waxing it. I store it outside with a car cover on as it isn’t water tight. Any extra advice?

Fill a tube sock with cat litter and put it on the floor with a towel under it. It will soak up any moisture that gets in as the temp rises and falls over the next few months.

fuel stabilizer in the system. run the truck for a minute or two to make sure it gets to the carb/injectors or whatever.

Dryer sheets under the seat. Makes it smell nice, and it keeps away the mice. Also, a big bucket of Damp Rid in the cab to keep things from getting moldy/musty. Do you run ethanol gas in it? If so, get that nasty stuff out of the carb before it sits.

That sounds like a good idea, I might try it next week . Would used dryer sheets work too?
Storage place sometimes put a desiccant pack in the trunk for me.

Why uninsure it? You can insure that thru Hagerty for less than $100 for the WHOLE year with an agreed value of $8,000. Sett le on a lesser agreed value and it’ll be even cheaper.

I’d stick to unused. The used ones generally don’t have much of the smelly stuff left. Desiccant packs in the glovebox and console are good ideas along with the trunk , too!

I used to block my lowered summer car in the winter when it was stored; 4x4 post cut to an inch or two more than your ground clearance. I would do each corner and let it sit in the blocks rather than the tires/susp. Probably makes no sense on a pickup.
DriZair inside, stabilizer on the fuel, good wax before the cover goes on..

Hmmm... never thought to use them in shoes. I have 2 big dessicant packs I stick in my work boots every night, but they still stink. Maybe I should add a dryer sheet to the mix.

Can’t speak to it how good it works, but you might look into Sta-Bil cylinder fogger. Its not expensive and might keep your engine nice and un-rusty. Obviously when you shut down your engine, some of your intake and exhaust valves remain open to the atmosphere. I guess this stuff is supposed to protect from that. Maybe you should fog and then put condoms over the exhaust pipe and the carb...just a thought.

Its not actually insured for damage at all. Liability insurance is expensive in this area. We have an insurance monopoly for the first $200K

Get a quote from Hagerty. I bet it will be a third of what you pay now for 6 months, for the whole year WITH agreed value collision coverage.
When I got my firs t classic truck I was paying $54 a month for liability only thru State Farm. Someone told me I should switch to Hagerty and it was $90 for the entire year WITH full coverage.

Again, we have a monopoly. IE, we have no choice as to who we buy our basic (which the truck only carries) coverage from.

Only other thing I do when I store my truck for the winter is to fill up the tank and add some Sta-bil. You can also over inflate the tires just a bit to try and keep them from flat spotting. Not over max pressure allowable for the tire, but I assume you run them in the 32-36 psi range, and the tires should be maxing at 44psi or so. Just make sure the cover is tight too, you don’t want the wind whipping it. I run tarp clips and a big bungee cord system under mine to keep it tight. Two clips in front of the front tires, two in tbt middle, and two behind the rear tires.
And also, pull the battery and store it indoors if possible. Then you can top off the charge throughout the winter and have it all ready to go come spring.

Do you guys have a problem wirh uninsured motorists? It's a huge problem here, and our insurance is cheap in comparison. It would be exponentially worse the more expensive it was. But, a lot of them are illegals who don't have a license either.
